A Discussion on Staking Plans and Loss Recovery
Enhancing Hedger Pro:
This is a topic I receive emails about almost daily, and it’s a valid question.
The concepts of loss recovery and staking strategies are central to all forms of investing and betting.
While I have personal opinions on various staking strategies, I acknowledge they provide valuable options for creating and managing effective betting systems, and many of our members find them useful.
In this update, I will briefly discuss our options for implementing these features in Hedger Pro, explaining how we can enhance the software to offer several staking plan options, including loss recovery.
This post is intentionally detailed, without dynamic graphs or statistics, to fully explain the necessary mechanics for integrating staking plans into Hedger Pro. This feature is a priority for the upcoming V1.7 release.
I am also asking for your input. Please share any reasonable staking plan suggestions in the comments below that Nigel, Alan, and I can review and feasibly include without adding excessive complexity.
Understanding the Cloud-Based Approach
First, it’s important to explain what is possible within our current framework.
A key difference between Hedger Pro and other betting software like Betfair Bot Manager, Fairbot, or Bet Angel is our cloud-based infrastructure.
Software that runs locally on your device has more scope to make real-time, race-to-race decisions. For example, a local application can be programmed to assess the result of the previous race and adjust the stake for the next one based on your strategy—whether that’s increasing the stake after a win, or a loss recovery percentage after a loss.
While this real-time approach seems ideal, it has a significant drawback:
UK horse racing results can be delayed. This is a daily occurrence, and a calculation might be postponed until the next qualifying race or even later, especially with stewards’ inquiries. This delay can completely disrupt a daily staking plan. From both a betting and a reporting perspective, this is a critical consideration.
The Advantages of Hedger Pro’s Cloud System
Hedger Pro runs on the cloud, which offers significant benefits. You don’t need to keep your PC on, eliminating common issues like power outages, software updates, or other disruptions.
The majority of our members appreciate the ability to set up their systems, turn off their devices, and let everything run unattended.
However, the nature of a cloud-based service like ours means that real-time, race-to-race analysis for every member, each running a different staking plan, would be an enormous drain on our resources.
The sheer volume of these calculations would be prohibitive. While we may have the resources to fund such an upgrade in the future, our current focus is on a sensible, resource-efficient solution that still offers staking plan options effectively.
Our approach will be to assess past results on a daily basis to make the next day’s staking decision. Your percentage of bank increase or decrease, or your daily recovery amount, will be based on the previous day’s results.
This method offers 100% accuracy because all races are settled by the end of the day.
Unlike a real-time system that might miss bets due to unsettled results, our daily reporting will always align with your actual betting history, preventing the “nightmare scenario” where your reported results don’t match your actual performance.
While you always have the option to manually adjust your stakes on a race-by-race basis, most of our members use automation and do not want to manually track and recover losses.
This is why the Hedger Pro solution will be to look at each day as a new betting period, allowing the built-in staking plans to automatically adjust your stakes or loss recovery percentages daily.
This ensures accurate performance reporting that consistently aligns with your bet history.
Proposed Staking Plans and Future Updates
Now, the question is: which staking plans should we include?
I have already lined up a few strong contenders for consideration, including:
Tom’s staking plan from Big Data.
Percentage of bank staking.
A form of percentage recovery method to restore the balance after a loss.
A Ratchet plan.
We want to give our members more control, but we must also ensure these tools are used responsibly. We will provide clear guidance and advice to help you manage these plans successfully.
If you have any suggestions for staking plans you would like us to consider, please leave a comment below or email me at ryan@hedgerpro.co.uk.
Final Notes and Call to Action
My Betting For a Living results will be updated this week, likely on Friday or Saturday, and will be posted on Substack.
The Portfolio Bet systems will remain available until the end of next week. We are adding BSP (Betfair Starting Price) versions at no additional cost, which will expand staking options for all members. This will be send as a ZIP file to all Portfolio Bet members who have the 59 course specific lay betting systems once available.
To those who expressed interest in my small Betting For a Living group project: thank you for all your feedback and questions. I will be addressing your emails in a group reply later next week. I have not forgotten you; I am simply consolidating responses to save time.
Thank you for reading. I will be back with a performance update by Saturday at the latest. Please remember to share your staking suggestions in the comments or via email.
Kindest Regards,
Ryan

Thank you for trying to add more staking plans to the HedgerPro cloud software which enables automated betting online without the need for any other software or VPS.
If you are taking requests, then I really recommend adding two version of Whitaker Staking:
Whitaker Back Staking with the ability to choose the "ELS multiple" and "Number of Bets"
Whitaker Lay Staking with the ability to choose the "ELS multiple" and "Number of Bets"
Whitaker back staking would reduce the problems associated with the long losing runs of backing high odds horses since it would risk less on those and more on backing higher win rate lower odds horses.
Whitaker lay staking would reduce the problems associated with the laying a mix of high and low odds horses since it adjusts the liabilities to match the bank being risked.
My site:

TSM (The Staking Machine) summarises the formulas well here:
https://www.thestakingmachine.com/staking_plans/whitaker/
https://www.thestakingmachine.com/staking_plans/lay-whitaker/
Both staking plans are in TSM for testing with bet data.
Personally I prefer % of bank or racket staking for automation so the bank can grow naturally instead of having to I
Intervene on a daily basis I pretty much use this for my dog racing.
